Efficient synthesis of 2-substituted-1,2,3-triazoles

A novel copper(I)-catalyzed reaction efficiently synthesizes 2-hydroxymethyl-1,2,3-triazoles from alkynes, sodium azide, and formaldehyde. These versatile intermediates can be further modified or deprotected to access N H-1,2,3-triazoles.
