Correcting impacted mandibular second molars can be challenging. A miniplate anchorage system effectively uprighted an impacted mandibular right second molar with predictable, quick results and minimal side effects.

Area of Science:

  • Dentistry
  • Orthodontics
  • Oral Surgery

Background:

  • Mandibular second molar impactions present significant orthodontic challenges.
  • Surgical intervention is often necessary for complex impactions.

Observation:

  • A case study involved a young male patient with a mandibular right second molar impaction.
  • Treatment utilized a miniplate as a temporary anchorage device.

Findings:

  • The miniplate provided stable anchorage to facilitate tooth uprighting.
  • The technique proved to be predictable and efficient.
  • Minimal adverse effects were observed during treatment.

Implications:

  • Miniplate anchorage offers a viable alternative for managing impacted mandibular second molars.
