Abstract:
Adjuvant chemotherapy dramatically improves prognosis for early breast cancer. Large, international randomized studies with thousands of patients not only introduced new effective drugs, but also led towards more individualized treatment strategies based on a number of prognostic factors. The integration, however, of the growing amount of information from clinical trials into every-day decision-making becomes an increasingly difficult task. Adjuvant!Online is an open-access computer program (www.adjuvantonline.com). From the entries of patient information and tumour characteristics the program calculates a prognostic estimate of outcome in terms of relapse and survival with and without adjuvant chemotherapy. This article focuses on the advantages and pitfalls in using Adjuvant!Online for informed treatment decisions in early breast cancer.
