Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the intermediate oncological results of laparoscopic radical nephrectomy performed via a retroperitoneal approach.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of this minimally invasive technique for malignant kidney tumors.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 146 consecutive patients undergoing laparoscopic retroperitoneal radical nephrectomy from 1995 to 2006.
  • Patients were followed up clinically, biologically, and radiologically every six months.
  • Disease-free survival and cancer-specific survival were calculated for patients without distant metastasis at the time of surgery.

Main Results:

  • The study included patients with various kidney cancer pathologies (clear cell, papillary, chromophobe).
  • Positive surgical margins occurred in 2 cases, with no port site recurrences.
  • Five-year disease-free survival was 87.3%, and 10-year cancer-specific survival was 92.0%.
