Summary

Graduate physical and occupational therapy programs addressed rising academic integrity concerns by developing an honor statement. A Delphi method involving students and faculty guided this process to foster an ethical learning environment.

Background:

Graduate programs in physical and occupational therapy observed an increase in academic dishonesty, including cheating and plagiarism.
This trend prompted concern among students and faculty regarding the erosion of academic integrity standards.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the collaborative process of developing an honor statement for a graduate physical and occupational therapy department.
To establish a clear framework for addressing academic integrity issues within the program.

Main Methods:

A Delphi method was employed, involving multiple rounds of meetings, online surveys, and electronic voting.
Student leaders and faculty collaborated to distill ideas and reach a consensus on the honor statement and related processes.

Main Results:

The collaborative process successfully resulted in the formulation and refinement of a departmental honor statement.
A structured process for addressing academic integrity concerns was established.

Conclusions:

A proactive, collaborative approach involving students and faculty can effectively address challenges to academic integrity.
The developed honor statement serves as a commitment to upholding ethical standards in graduate health professions education.
