Area of Science:

  • Optics
  • Laser Technology
  • Mechanical Engineering

Background:

  • Laser mirrors are critical optical components.
  • Damage to laser mirrors can lead to costly replacements.
  • Existing methods may not fully utilize partially damaged mirrors.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a novel mirror holder design.
  • To enable the use of partially damaged laser mirrors.
  • To extend the functional lifetime of laser optics.

Main Methods:

  • Design of a mirror holder with an eccentric step.
  • Incorporation of a concentric aperture for alignment.
  • Method for rotating the mirror within the holder.

Main Results:

  • The holder allows alignment of undamaged mirror areas along the laser optic axis.
  • Eccentricity variation and mirror rotation enable successive use of the entire reflector surface.
  • Demonstrates a practical solution for managing damaged laser mirrors.

Conclusions:

  • The described mirror holder effectively salvages partially damaged laser mirrors.
  • This innovation offers a cost-effective approach to laser system maintenance.
  • The design facilitates maximizing the utility of optical components.
