Electroencephalography (EEG) is frequently abnormal in children with specific language impairment, but epileptiform activity is rare and does not impact clinical care. Routine EEG may not be beneficial for diagnosing this condition.

- Awake EEG appears to have limited value in the routine diagnosis of young children with SLI.
- Further research on both awake and sleep EEG in homogenous SLI populations is needed for definitive recommendations.
