    Area of Science:

    • Orthopedics
    • Biomechanics
    • Physical Therapy

    Background:

    • Foot orthotics are increasingly recognized for correcting lower extremity alignment and mechanical dysfunctions.
    • Despite widespread use, research on foot orthotic effectiveness in adult populations is limited.
    • Numerous products claim pain relief and enhanced foot function, necessitating empirical investigation.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To assess pain relief provided by foot orthotics.
    • To evaluate the return to previous activity levels with orthotic use.
    • To determine patient compliance and identify factors influencing it.

    Main Methods:

    • A questionnaire survey was administered to 53 adult subjects (20 males, 33 females).
    • Responses were correlated with individual patient chart reviews.
    • Chi-square analysis examined the significance of deformity, age, weight, and adjustment to orthotics.

    Main Results:

    • 96% of patients reported pain relief with prescribed foot orthotics.
    • 70% of patients returned to their previous activity levels.
    • 94% of patients continued wearing the orthotics, with 52% deeming them essential.

    Conclusions:

    • Foot orthotics demonstrate high efficacy in pain reduction and functional improvement for adult patients.
    • High patient compliance suggests significant perceived benefit and successful integration into daily life.
    • Further research is warranted to explore the long-term impact and comparative effectiveness of foot orthotics against other interventions.
