Area of Science:

  • Clinical laboratory diagnostics
  • Haematology automation

Background:

  • The XE-2100 is a novel haematology analyser.
  • It offers complete blood counts, leukocyte differentials, reticulocyte analysis, and nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) quantification.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the basic performance of the XE-2100 haematology analyser.
  • Assessment included reproducibility, carryover, storage stability, and accuracy.

Main Methods:

  • Evaluation used routinely obtained blood specimens treated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid-2K.
  • Performance metrics assessed included reproducibility, carryover, storage stability (4°C and room temperature), and accuracy.
  • Comparisons were made against the SE-9000 haematology analyser and manual methods.

Main Results:

  • Good reproducibility and minimal carryover were observed.
  • Accurate measurements were maintained for up to 48 hours of storage.
  • High correlation (r > 0.9) was found for complete blood counts and leukocyte differentials (neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils) compared to the SE-9000 and manual counts.
  • Nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) and reticulocyte counts demonstrated satisfactory precision and accuracy.
  • Differential counts for bone marrow aspirates correlated well with manual differentials.

Conclusions:

  • The XE-2100 haematology analyser exhibits excellent performance characteristics.
  • The instrument is capable of providing reliable and accurate data for clinical laboratories.
  • Its comprehensive capabilities make it a valuable tool for haematological analysis.
