Summary

This study reports the first case of xanthoma in Meckel's cave and the semilunar ganglion, a rare finding associated with trigeminal nerve deficit. The unique presentation and potential origins of this xanthoma are explored.

Area of Science:

  • Neurology
  • Pathology
  • Ophthalmology

Background:

  • Xanthomas are typically associated with lipid metabolism disorders.
  • Their occurrence within the trigeminal nerve pathways is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A unique case of xanthoma was identified within Meckel's cave and the semilunar ganglion.
  • The patient presented with a deficit in the trigeminal nerve function.

Findings:

  • This represents the first documented instance of xanthoma in this specific anatomical location.
  • Distinctive morphological features of the xanthoma were observed and illustrated.
  • The histogenesis and potential causes of this localized xanthoma were discussed.

Implications:

  • This case expands the known locations for xanthoma development.
  • Understanding the histogenesis may provide insights into lipid deposition in neural structures.
  • Further research may clarify the association between xanthomas and neurological deficits.
