Summary

Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a severe necrotizing infection. Multidisciplinary team management, including debridement, antibiotics, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, can lead to recovery even in patients with multiple comorbidities.

Background:

  • Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a rare, severe necrotizing infection of the perineum and genitalia.
  • It often arises from anorectal or urogenital infections and has a high mortality rate (20-30%) despite aggressive treatment.

Observation:

  • A case of FG in a 65-year-old male with significant comorbidities including diabetes, hypertension, and thrombocytopenia is presented.
  • The patient experienced complications such as heart failure and pulmonary embolism during rehabilitation.

Findings:

  • Treatment involved extensive wound debridement, antibiotic and antimycotic therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, and management of comorbidities.
  • Reconstructive surgery was necessary for urethral defects.
