Appreciation for medication decisions was positively associated with medication adherence over the past 6 months.
Women, older individuals, and those living independently showed higher rates of medication adherence.
Client participation, preference, or agreement between preference and participation did not correlate with improved medication adherence or QoL.

Conclusions:

While appreciation for treatment is linked to better adherence, patient involvement in decision-making may not directly enhance adherence or quality of life in this population.
Further research is needed to explore nuanced factors influencing treatment adherence and well-being in serious mental illness.
