    Summary

    Advanced secondary hyperparathyroidism significantly increases bone uptake of 99mTc-pyrophosphate. Parathyroid activity itself has minimal direct impact on this bone uptake, with changes only seen after extended observation post-parathyroidectomy.

    Background:
