Summary

Hyperthyroidism patients experience bone loss, evidenced by decreased bone mineral density and impaired parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion. Treatment for hyperthyroidism reverses these bone density and PTH secretion abnormalities, suggesting a direct effect of thyroid hormones.
