Summary

This study developed familiar, homogeneous, and phonemically balanced Mandarin monosyllable recognition test (MMRT) word lists. These new lists show better interlist equivalence and lower variability than previous tests.

  • To create 50- and 25-item word lists for the Mandarin monosyllable recognition test (MMRT).
  • To ensure these lists possess high subject familiarity, homogeneity, and phonemic balance.
  • To establish a foundation for improved diagnostic sensitivity in hearing-impaired listeners.

  • Selected 700 frequent Mandarin monosyllables for familiarity.
  • Evaluated psychometric characteristics to identify 348 homogeneous monosyllables.
  • Constructed phonemically balanced 50-item lists based on monosyllabic word frequencies.
  • Created 25-item lists (half-A and half-B) by dividing the 50-item list components.
