[Hypertensive disease in the elderly and its treatment]

After presenting the epidemiologic and pathophysiologic pattern, the paper focuses on the evaluation of elderly hypertensives, on nonpharmacological and particularly on pharmacological treatment. Further, possibilities of individualized treatment, resistance to treatment, complications of hypertensive disease in elderly subjects, as well as beneficial effects of management are described.
