Abstract:
We examined relationship of acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) and cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2E1 genetic polymorphism with personality. After written informed consent was obtained, each polymorphism was determined by PCR-RFLP, and personality assessment was evaluated by NEO-FFI, among 181 health university students. There was no significant relationship between ALDH2 and personality. However, the individuals with CYP2E1*1/*1 showed a significant higher O (openness) score than individuals with CYP2E1*5 allele (p<0.05). Furthermore, the individuals with both CYP2E1*5 and ALDH2*2 alleles showed a significant high E (extraversion) score (p<0.05). Our study suggested that CYP2E1*5 and ALDH2*2 alleles may relate to a part of the personality.
