The bifid posterior labrum: an anatomic variant of the acetabular labrum

Abstract:
We report 3 cases of a bifid posterior acetabular labrum in a hip joint, diagnosed arthroscopically in patients with other symptomatic hip pathology. One of the patients underwent investigation with magnetic resonance arthrography, which was suggestive of a posterior labral tear, whereas the bifid posterior labrum was found coincidentally in the other 2 patients. We suggest that a bifid acetabular labrum is a rare, normal variant that may sometimes be mistaken for an acetabular labral tear.
