Abstract:
Modern diagnostics and surgical treatments of venous insufficiency rely on colour doppler sonography of veins. Alongside the surgical excision of superficial veins, new mini-invasive procedures have been developed that are based upon intravenously destructing the functionally impaired vein. In a 2 to 3-year follow-up observation, foam therapy, laser and radio frequency obliteration at least match up to the traditional open operation in respect of efficiency and safety. Compression stocking therapy combined with the possible removal of functionally impaired superficial veins remains as the cornerstone of the treatment of deep venous insufficiency.
