Bone Remodeling01:40

Bone Remodeling

Bone remodeling is a continuous and balanced process of bone resorption by osteoclasts and bone formation by osteoblasts. In adults, it helps maintain bone mass and calcium homeostasis. While mechanical stress can stimulate turnover as part of the normal maintenance and reparative process, several hormones also regulate bone remodeling.

Area of Science:

  • Biomedical research
  • Homeopathy
  • Skeletal biology

Background:

  • Mandibular bone defects require effective repair strategies.
  • Homeopathic treatments are explored for regenerative medicine applications.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the efficacy of homeopathic Plumbum metallicum (Plumbum met.) in promoting mandibular bone repair in a rat model.
  • To compare Plumbum met. treatment with calcitonin and a control group.

Main Methods:

  • Sixty male rats with surgically created mandibular defects were divided into control, calcitonin, and Plumbum met. 30c groups.
  • Histologic and histomorphometric analyses were performed at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days post-surgery.
  • Statistical analysis included two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test.

Main Results:

  • Histological analysis revealed complete defect filling in the Plumbum met. group.
  • Histomorphometric data showed no significant difference between Plumbum met., calcitonin, and control groups.
  • A significant interaction effect indicated treatment-dependent outcomes over time.

Conclusions:

  • Plumbum metallicum (Plumbum met.) 30c demonstrated potential in histological mandibular bone defect repair in rats.
  • No significant histomorphometric differences were observed between Plumbum met. and control groups.
