Suprapubic catheters significantly reduce urinary tract infections and improve patient comfort compared to urethral catheters for non-urological bladder drainage.

Bladder drainage is often necessary for non-urological conditions.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common complication of bladder catheterization.

Purpose of the Study:

To compare the incidence of UTIs and patient outcomes between suprapubic and urethral catheterization for non-urological indications.

Main Methods:

Randomized controlled trial involving 75 patients requiring bladder drainage.
Patients were randomized to receive either a urethral catheter or a suprapubic catheter.
Urine cultures were used to detect urinary infections.
