Deep sedation with propofol does not precipitate hepatic encephalopathy during elective upper endoscopy

Propofol sedation for endoscopy in cirrhosis patients did not trigger hepatic encephalopathy (HE). This study found no increased risk of minimal or overt HE in patients with cirrhosis receiving propofol.

- While preliminary due to a small sample size, these findings suggest propofol is a safe sedation option for endoscopy in this population.
