Nine-Grid Area Division Method: A New Ideal Bone Puncture Region for Percutaneous Vertebroplasty in Lumbar Spine

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) T1- and T2-weighted sequences were used to characterize the fractured vertebral bodies.
  • Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) was injected into the fractured vertebrae.
  • Main Results:

    • The 3D radiography allowed for precise identification of the safest trajectory through the lamina and pedicle to the vertebral body.
    • A 13-gauge needle was successfully advanced in all patients.
    • Significant improvement in back pain was observed post-procedure.
    • No major complications were reported during or after the PVP procedures.

    Conclusions:

    • Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) under 3D radiography guidance is an accurate, safe, and convenient method for managing vertebral compression fractures.
    • This technique effectively alleviates back pain, facilitating improved rehabilitation in elderly stroke patients.
