The interleukin-12 p40 (IL-12β) gene 3'-untranslated region polymorphism (1188A/C) is associated with an increased risk of cervical cancer. This risk is further elevated in passive smokers carrying specific genotypes.

- The risk of cervical cancer was substantially higher in passive smokers with the AC or AC + CC genotypes, exceeding 2.8 times the risk compared to non-smokers with the AA genotype.

- The findings suggest that the IL-12β (1188A/C) polymorphism may be a genetic risk factor for cervical cancer, particularly in the context of passive smoking.
