Abstract:
In a world where international travel and trade is becoming increasingly rapid and intense, the emergence of new infectious diseases and reemergence of old ones pose a serious threat to international health security. In this regard the WHO has taken steps action by adopting a resolution entitled "International health security: alert and response in case of epidemic" in 2001 and by revising International Travel Regulations in 2007. It is essential to recognize the importance of emerging and re-emerging diseases, assess infectious risks, and implement appropriate policies for control and prevention at the national, regional, and international level. The purpose of this study using Algeria as an epidemiological setting is to illustrate the infectious risks that are involved and the measures that have been and need to be taken.
