Background:

Obesity is a growing global health concern.
Understanding its impact on physiological functions like pulmonary capacity is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate dynamic pulmonary function tests in obese versus non-obese young adults (20-40 years).
To assess the correlation between Body Mass Index (BMI) and pulmonary function in this demographic.

Main Methods:

Cross-sectional study involving obese and non-obese young adults from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
Standardized dynamic pulmonary function tests were administered.
Statistical analysis included Student's t-test and linear correlation analysis.

Main Results:

Obese females exhibited significantly lower forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1).

In females, both FVC and FEV1 showed a significant negative correlation with BMI.

Pulmonary function in males showed a negative correlation with BMI, but it was not statistically significant.

Conclusions:

Obesity negatively affects dynamic pulmonary function in young adult females.
The impact of obesity on pulmonary function in males is less significant.
Individuals with higher morbidity may be more susceptible to altered pulmonary function due to obesity.
