Summary

A cat with severe immune-mediated polymyositis and neuritis showed rapid progression of lameness. Prompt diagnosis and long-term corticosteroid treatment led to complete motor nerve function recovery.

Observation:

  • A 4-year-old domestic shorthair cat presented with a 1-week history of progressive tetraparesis and shifting limb lameness.
  • Physical and neurological examinations revealed generalized muscle atrophy, pain on palpation, and diminished reflexes.
  • Diagnostic workup included electromyography (EMG), cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, and nerve/muscle biopsies.

Findings:

  • EMG showed positive sharp waves and fibrillation potentials, indicative of muscle denervation or irritation.
