A prefronto-amygdaloid projection in the monkey: light and electron microscopic evidence

Abstract:
Unilateral partial ablations of the medial prefrontal cortex were made in rhesus and cynomolgus monkeys. The course and termination of prefrontoamygdaloid fibers were followed with the Nauta-Gygax and Fink-Heimer silver methods, and the presence of terminal degeneration in the amygdala was confirmed by electron microscopy. The heaviest prefrontal projection appeared to be to the pars lateralis of the basal amygdaloid nucleus.
