Summary

A rare case of Hodgkin lymphoma presenting as a skin ulcer shows that standard therapy can lead to a good prognosis, challenging previous beliefs about poor outcomes for skin involvement.

Background:

  • Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) typically does not involve the skin.
  • Cutaneous involvement in HL is exceptionally rare, often associated with advanced disease and poor prognosis.
  • Previous literature suggests a dismal outlook for HL with skin infiltration.

Observation:

  • A 54-year-old previously healthy male presented with a solitary cutaneous ulcer.
  • The ulcer was diagnosed as Hodgkin lymphoma.
  • This presentation is highly unusual for HL compared to non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtypes.

Findings:

  • Despite the rarity and typically poor prognosis, the patient responded well to standard HL therapy.
  • The case challenges the established notion that skin infiltration in HL invariably leads to a poor outcome.
