Circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) are lower in individuals with severe age-related white matter changes (ARWMC). Lower EPC levels, along with age and hypertension, independently predict severe ARWMC.

- Age, hypertension, and hypertriglyceridemia are also associated with severe ARWMC.
- Further research is needed to clarify the interplay between EPC, vascular risk factors, and ARWMC.
