[Surgical correction of eyelid malpositions]

It is anticipated that in the light of demographic changes a further increase, particularly in senile eyelid malpositions will occur.

Using case studies, this article presents the most common surgical procedures for correction of ectropion, entropion, trichiasis, ptosis and eyelid anomalies in facial nerve palsy and socket anophthalmic syndrome.

In general, most eyelid malpositions can be corrected with excellent cosmetic and functional results. It is, however, difficult to reconstruct eyelid malpositions occurring in conjunction with systemic diseases.

The choice of surgical procedure considering the age of the patient, the genesis and the exact localisation of the pathology is of utmost importance in order to achieve ideal post-operative results.
