Summary

Ozone (O3) exposure in tobacco plants triggers nitric oxide (NO) and ethylene (ET) to activate alternative oxidase 1a (AOX1a) gene transcription. However, later plant responses to NO are dependent on cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), unlike early AOX1a induction.
