    Abstract:

    We present a phenomenological theory of the intensity-dependent dielectric function of semiconductor-doped glasses near the absorption edge. It is shown that efficient phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave mixing should be possible in these materials.

    Intrinsic semiconductors are highly pure materials with no impurities. At absolute zero, these semiconductors behave as perfect insulators because all the valence electrons are bound, and the conduction band is empty, disallowing electrical conduction.
