Observation:

  • A 50-year-old male presented with a slowly enlarging, circumscribed solid nodule on the nose.
  • The nodule measured 4x3x4.5 cm.
  • Microscopy revealed a dermal tumor with mesenchymal cells resembling follicular papilla, along with pigmentation and sebaceous hyperplasia.

Findings:

  • The tumor was a benign trichogenic neoplasm.
  • Microscopic examination showed features consistent with trichoblastoma.
  • Differential diagnosis included basal cell carcinoma due to similar cellular arrangements.

Implications:

  • Distinguishing trichoblastoma from malignant tumors like basal cell carcinoma is essential.
  • Accurate diagnosis ensures appropriate patient management.
  • Understanding trichogenic tumors aids in dermatopathology research.
