Hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients often experience depression during interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) treatment. Antidepressant prophylaxis and treatment, particularly with SSRIs, are effective strategies for managing IFN-alpha-induced major depressive disorder (IFN-alpha-MDD).
