Consumers need accessible information to compare long-term care facilities.
The availability and presentation of data for assisted living facilities (ALFs) across states are not well understood.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the availability of information for assisted living facilities (ALFs) across different states.
To assess the consistency and accessibility of ALF data for consumer comparison.

Main Methods:

Conducted an internet search to gather information on assisted living facilities (ALFs) in each state.
Analyzed the types of descriptive indicators available and how they were presented.

Main Results:

Most states provide some descriptive indicators for assisted living facilities (ALFs).
Significant variation exists among states regarding the display, detail, and depth of information.
Useful information is often not easily discoverable or comparable.

Conclusions:

While descriptive data exists, its inconsistent presentation hinders consumer ability to compare assisted living facilities (ALFs).
Standardization of information display is necessary to empower consumers in making informed choices.
