Thirst perception and drinking in euhydrate and dehydrate human subjects

Drinking water and gargling reduce thirst perception in both hydrated and dehydrated individuals. Dehydration significantly increases thirst, while water intake and gargling provide relief, with water intake eventually abolishing thirst.

- Gargling alleviates thirst but does not eliminate it; oral water intake is necessary for rehydration.
- Reduced plasma osmolality following water consumption is likely responsible for abolishing thirst.
