Summary

A man experienced temporary hearing loss after a lumbar puncture. Doctors later discovered and treated a blocked left transverse sinus, a vein in the skull.

Background:

Lumbar puncture is a medical procedure to obtain cerebrospinal fluid for diagnostic testing.
Raised intracranial pressure can lead to various neurological symptoms.

Observation:

A 63-year-old male patient presented with acute on chronic hearing loss following a lumbar puncture.
The lumbar puncture was performed to investigate elevated intracranial pressure.

Findings:

The patient was diagnosed with stenosis of the distal left transverse sinus.
Venous sinus stenting was successfully employed as a treatment for the identified stenosis.

Implications:

This case highlights a potential, albeit transient, complication of lumbar puncture related to cerebrospinal fluid dynamics.
