[Intracranial pressure monitoring in polytrauma patients with traumatic brain injury].

Background:

  • Vertebral artery injury can present with neurological deficits, sometimes mimicking traumatic brain injury.

Observation:

  • Four patients with cervical spine injuries experienced vertebral artery lesions.
  • Lesions included unilateral facet dislocation and dens fractures.
  • Observed complications were arterial occlusion, thrombosis, basilar artery embolism, and aneurysm.

Findings:

  • One patient had minor vertebrobasilar symptoms due to arterial occlusion.
  • Another patient experienced lethal basilar artery embolism secondary to thrombosis.
  • A dens fracture caused reversible vertebral artery occlusion and stenosis, leading to unconsciousness.
