Background:

Polydopamine (Pdop) nano/microcapsules are synthesized via dopamine polymerization.
These capsules are formed by deposition on a template followed by template removal.
Pdop capsules exhibit stability across various pH conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the permeability properties of polydopamine (Pdop) nano/microcapsules.
To assess the uptake and release behavior of Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) in different solvents.
To explore the potential applications of Pdop capsules based on their selective permeability.

Main Methods:

Oxidative polymerization of dopamine to form Pdop.
Spontaneous deposition of Pdop on a template surface.
Template removal to yield Pdop nano/microcapsules.
Permeability studies using Rhodamine 6G (Rh6G) in aqueous and ethanol solutions.

Main Results:

Pdop nano/microcapsules were successfully produced and demonstrated robustness.
A unique unidirectional permeability to Rh6G was observed.
In aqueous solutions, Pdop capsules uptake Rh6G but do not release it.
In ethanol, Pdop capsules do not uptake Rh6G but rapidly release it.

Conclusions:

Polydopamine (Pdop) nano/microcapsules possess pH-stable and robust properties.
These capsules exhibit solvent-dependent unidirectional permeability to Rh6G.
The selective uptake and release characteristics suggest potential for controlled delivery and separation applications.
