Background:

Limited screening tools exist for REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD).
No current instruments effectively quantify RBD severity.
There is a need for validated diagnostic and monitoring instruments for RBD.

Purpose of the Study:

To validate the 13-item REM sleep behavior disorder questionnaire (RBDQ-HK) for diagnosing RBD.
To assess the RBDQ-HK's utility in quantifying the severity of RBD symptoms.
To establish the psychometric properties of the RBDQ-HK for clinical and research applications.

Main Methods:

The RBDQ-HK was administered to 107 RBD patients and 107 controls.
Diagnostic accuracy was evaluated using Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.
Exploratory factor analysis was performed to assess the questionnaire's structure.

Main Results:

RBD patients exhibited significantly higher RBDQ-HK scores than controls (p<0.005).
The questionnaire demonstrated good psychometric properties: sensitivity (82.2%), specificity (86.9%), PPV (86.3%), NPV (83.0%).
Factor analysis identified two components: dream-related and behavioral factors, aligning with clinical features of RBD.

Conclusions:

The RBDQ-HK is a valid and reliable tool for assessing RBD symptoms and severity.
This questionnaire can aid in the diagnosis of RBD.
The RBDQ-HK facilitates the evaluation of disease course in clinical practice and research studies.
