Genetic analysis of Zanthoxylum ailanthoides across Japan reveals strong population differentiation and suggests a selective sweep at the ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase large subunit (agpL) locus. The southernmost population showed highest genetic diversity, possibly indicating a glacial refugium.
