[Virologic diagnosis of meningoencephalitis]

Many viruses can be responsible for meningoencephalitis. The principal ones are listed and the main features of their virological diagnosis are described. It must be borne in mind that a virological diagnosis must always be guided by the clinical context and that viral meningoencephalitis, relatively uncommon in Europe, is much more frequent in tropical countries.
