Background:

  • Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a rare condition that can cause significant neurological deficits.
  • Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for favorable outcomes in patients with CVST.

Observation:

  • A 33-year-old woman presented with headaches, papilledema, and transient neurological symptoms.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed thrombosis in the superior sagittal, transverse, and sigmoid sinuses.

Findings:

  • Following initial heparinization and three months of oral anticoagulation, the patient's neurological signs and symptoms markedly improved.
  • Repeat MRI scans demonstrated significant improvement in the dural sinus thromboses, although papilledema persisted.

Implications:

  • Anticoagulation therapy is effective in managing cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and improving neurological outcomes.
  • Persistent papilledema may indicate ongoing intracranial hypertension despite successful anticoagulation and clot resolution.
