Transcranial sonography differentiates subtypes of progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP). PSP-Parkinsonism (PSP-P) typically shows a hyperechogenic substantia nigra, while Richardson's syndrome (RS) exhibits a normoechogenic substantia nigra and enlarged third ventricle.
