Bringing the Visible Universe into Focus with Robo-AO

Abstract:
The property that the bimorph deformation is generated along a quadratic curve is used to form a variable quadratic mirror surface so that an effective dynamic-focusing mirror system is realized. The effectiveness and the limitations of the method are examined numerically with some comparisons with the COAT system. A typical simple dynamic-focusing mirror system is constructed using this method. The results of numerical analysis and experiment show the usefulness of the method for dynamic focusing of laser beams.
