Summary

This study found that lateral cephalometric analysis using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) slices is as accurate as traditional cephalograms. CBCT offers comparable precision for angular measurements in orthodontics.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare angular cephalometric measurements derived from traditional lateral cephalograms and CBCT-generated slices.
  • To assess the reliability and accuracy of CBCT in cephalometric analysis.

Main Methods:

  • 36 patients underwent both traditional cephalography and CBCT imaging.
  • Ten angular cephalometric measurements were analyzed using Dolphin 3D software.
  • Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) evaluated reliability.
  • Paired MANOVA compared measurements between modalities.

  • High inter-rater and intra-rater reliability (ICC >0.8) were observed for both methods.
