Objective:
To understand the meaning assigned to ethical thought that should guide Brazilian bioethicists regarding the equity of a Health System.
Methods:
Between July 2007 and July 2008, 20 bioethicists, directors and former directors of the 'Sociedade Brasileira de Bioética' (Bioethics Brazilian Society) and their regional administrations were interviewed.
Results:
Discourse analysis led to definition of these main points: To treat the unequals unequally according to their needs; Compensate equity and inequalities; Distributive justice and maximization of benefits; Justice and social merit and Justice and rights.
Conclusion:
Research results disclose a pluralism of values that jeopardizes determination of moral equity in the health system., Exhausting dialogues among all interested parties are necessary to reach a possible consensus.
