Summary

Human thymic dendritic cells (DCs) produce interleukin-1 (IL-1) upon stimulation, but IL-1 does not significantly enhance DC function in T cell development. Thymocyte contact can induce IL-1 production by DCs.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the IL-1 production capacity of human thymic DCs.
  • To determine the role of IL-1 in DC-mediated T cell accessory function.

  • EL4/CTLL conversion assay to measure IL-1 activity.
  • Stimulation of DCs with lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
  • Neutralization assays using anti-IL-1 beta monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).
