Background:

Australian general practice networks (GPN) must report national performance indicators via the National Quality Performance System (NQPS).
Assessing the readiness of Victorian GPN for NQPS clinical data management is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the preparedness of Victorian general practice networks (GPN) for clinical data management.
To determine readiness for reporting under the National Quality Performance System (NQPS).

Main Methods:

Qualitative study utilizing semistructured interviews.
Purposive sampling of chief executive officers from urban and rural Victorian GPN.
Inclusion of GPN participating and not participating in the Australian Primary Care Collaboratives Program.

Main Results:

GPN with Australian Primary Care Collaborative experience possess skills for clinical data management and NQPS reporting.
Trust is established with general practices through demonstrated benefits and improved patient health.
GPN without prior collaborative experience report concerns regarding practice cooperation, privacy, and staffing.

Conclusions:

Victorian GPN engaged in the Australian Primary Care Collaborative program demonstrate greater readiness for NQPS clinical data management.
Experience with collaborative programs enhances capacity for national performance indicator reporting.
